10 drawings from the Royal Collection are exhibited and it's great to be able to see original drawings from 500 years ago. This picture is 'The Head of Leda' and the detail is amazing. We had to go as part of the coursework related to observational drawing, and I'm so glad I did.

(It was brilliant to see Leonardo's 'special' writing! I enjoyed that as much as the sketches)

I'm being told there's something wrong and my blog has turned to gobbledygook. Oops, sorry, I'll explain:
My first sentence is written backwards in the way that Leonardo used to write. Just a bit of fun ~ me being silly!

Cabbages and Corsets

I'm still drawing my food!  I wasn't quick enough to draw this lovely cabbage before dinner time but those curly lines look delicious so I can feel another cabbagey dinner coming on this weekend ... I just need to get my pencil out before my saucepan boils.

I've also been designing a corset which I then have to make. Interesting as I've never made any item of clothing before .... I love to stitch and sew but as I've said many times ~ I never make anything useful. All this is about to change! I need to submit 10 design ideas by next week and then choose one to proceed with. The theme is 'Commedia Dell Arte', fun and colourful!

First blog!

As part of my HND Textiles course I am required to keep a blog .... so here I am!

I'm hoping to talk about my college experiences and challenges and to put up the occasional photo or two. Term started four weeks ago and I'm really enjoying all the tutorials and projects. However, at the moment there seems to be so much to do and my biggest challenge is keeping up to date with all the research that's required for each of the seven different tutor sessions.

In these four weeks all my sketchbooks are starting to shape up and I've managed to get quite organised ...... meaning that my projects are no longer all blurring into each other, I know what I'm doing now!  The research is enjoyable and some of the artists work I've been looking at is truly amazing. Very inspirational.

So, it's a strange life now ......... I've been drawing all my fruit and vegetables before cooking and eating them, I've been painting with strange objects such as copper pipe elbows and knitting needles, and I've been wandering around derelict houses with a hammer and a cheese grater in order to distress fabric!

I'll end on that note now :)
