The Rose Cottage Studio
I'm Linda McKeen and I work from home in The Rose Cottage Studio in rural Perthshire, Scotland, producing stitched textile and mixed media art. Most of my work is for sale and my studio is open by appointment all year round. Please email me if you'd like to pop in for a browse. I participate in the annual Perthshire Open Studios event under the name of 'The Rose Cottage Studio' and I can be found on the Turquoise Route.
Artist Statement
Through my studies for BA, HND and City & Guilds qualifications I have a wide range of creative and technical skills with experience in designing and making products, ranging from textile art, to books, to fashion. Since successfully completing the BA in Design & Creativity the focus of my work has changed and I am now concentrating on designing and making Artists’ Books.
An Artists’ Book is an exploration of creative expression in contemporary format. In my work the design and layout, the choice of materials, and the final construction methods are all relative to the chosen theme. I enjoy making the structure of my books as interesting as the content.
I like to use recycled textiles and found objects and place great importance on the mantra 'make do and mend'. I enjoy creating something new out of something old, discarded and abandoned. The bric-a-brac of life made into new artworks, the preservation of a previous 'life' and the creation of a new memory.
Qualifications:
BA Design & Creativity - Distinction, Grays School of Art/Robert Gordon University
HND Textiles, Dundee College
City & Guilds Creative Embroidery and Design Level 3, Dundee College
Awards:
2013 The Nine Trades of Dundee - Tailor Trade Award
2014 The Nine Trades of Dundee - Tailor Trade Award
