'Beetroot and Rust'

I wrapped pieces of an old shirt with beetroots and found objects and tied them into bundles with string, then covered them with boiling water and left them to steep for a while before unwrapping. This beetroot and rust dyed material formed the pages of a fan style BookArt which seemed appropriate for the supports that I based on an old treadle sewing machine.

'The Old High Mill, Dundee'

The old and long abandoned Victorian Jute Mill in Dundee was left for nature to claim until 2014 when work started to rebuild and refurbish the building. The new 'High Mill' will become an Open Gallery attached to Verdant Works Museum. My book is based on observations of the ruined and overgrown building with the roof structure still strong, through to the planning of the new exhibition and conference centre which opens late summer 2015.

A few pages from my handmade fabric book that reuses many items from an old sewing tin that I inherited. Salvaged and saved items from the days of make do and mend. Here I am making something new from something old, creating new memories from old ones.
